Building a better table.

While our competitors import more and more table assemblies from Asia, Grand Rapids Chair Company continues to build tables right here in our own factory – maintaining strict quality standards that can’t be met overseas:
- Our bases are made of either high-strength, structural steel—30% stronger than the average steel, or heavy-duty cast iron.
- Columns are heavy-wall tubes made of 14-gauge steel.
- All connections are hard-welded using our state-of-the-art machinery and a deep-penetration welding process that maximizes strength.
- Raw steel table bases are cleaned and phosphate-primed before paint is applied with an automotive-grade powder-coat system that ensures even and thorough coverage all over.
- The environmentally-friendly epoxy/polyester finish is baked in to create a beautiful, durable, color-rich surface.
- All columnar bases come with our "Labor Saver" attachment for easy assembly using a fixed, hardened, 1/2" bolt that is hard welded into a heavy plate inside the bottom of the column. Compared to a complicated thru-rod and bolt assembly mechanism, this unique attachment can save you hours on large installations. Bolt simply attaches to the base and is tightened by a nut with a washer. All other table bases are just as easily assembled on site using a 5/16" nut driver and a wrench.
- Top mounting plates of stamped, high-strength 12-gauge steel are hard welded to the top of the column for easy attachment to our pre-drilled table tops.
- Strong, affordable, sustainably harvested Maple is our standard for solid wood tops, but we can source and work with other species as requested.
- Laminate and veneered tops are made with BIFMA-strength approved, industrial grade, low-formaldehyde particleboard cores.
- Veneered surfaces are made using Maple, Northern Red Oak or Michigan Ash, unless otherwise specified.
- Standard face for laminate tops is .050" (countertop commercial grade) with a balancing phenolic resin backer for balanced construction.
- Solid wood and wood veneer tops are hand sanded and stained. The grain is enhanced by expertly applied finishes that ensure long-lasting beauty. Veneer and solid wood tops get a polyurethane top coat. Wood edge tables get a water-based acrylic topcoat.
