Growing Our Business from Deep West Michigan Roots

The story of Grand Rapid Chair began in 1991 when owners Dave and Jill Miller started Manufacturer’s Resource as a contract furniture sales company. By the end of the decade, the Miller’s son, Geoff, had joined the family business, and together, they evolved the company. With a shift from selling other manufacturers’ furniture to crafting seating and tables of their own, the family changed the name to Grand Rapids Chair Company. In 2012, Geoff assumed leadership of the business and today Grand Rapids Chair is a driving force in the commercial furniture industry with a large, diverse customer base and nearly 150 employees.

We craft high-quality furniture for a variety of industries in our 147,000-square-foot vertically integrated facility in Byron Center.

We keep manufacturing local, so you can expect faster lead times and quality that comes from American engineering and manufacturing expertise.

Our master craftspeople design and build tables and chairs using locally sourced materials, including solid hardwoods, steel, aluminum, and high-performance textiles. Keeping manufacturing in West Michigan ensures affordable price points and industry-leading delivery schedules.

While we’re passionate about our Michigan manufacturing operations, we seek insight and inspiration from independent industrial designers. With their design expertise, we craft products that add delight and complement any space.

Our product portfolio includes customizable seating and tables that spark joy in people and places. With an extensive palette of over 150 powder coat colors for metal furniture and virtually limitless fabric choices, we give you the creative freedom to design spaces that feel personal and look beautiful.

Our commitment to Michigan-made manufacturing ensures fast lead times and durable, commercial-grade products. But we’re also deeply focused on serving our customers with frictionless dependability. Working with us is about more than product specification—it’s also about an exceptional customer experience.

One of the best warranties in the industry reflects our unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. We test our products to meet or exceed BIFMA standards. And we make it easy for you to customize your furniture with any metal, wood, or fabric you choose. That’s another benefit of keeping manufacturing local. We can keep your one-of-a-kind orders affordable and deliver them quickly.

Family Mindset

As a family-owned company, we understand that the social connections and networks people build help strengthen and build the company. We’ve worked hard to create a culture that promotes togetherness, too. This people-first philosophy also extends to our community.

Our company is closely connected to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We even named one of our chairs after Brooke Miller, a family member with type 1 diabetes, and donated a portion of the profits to the organization. We love celebrating our team and their families and regularly name chairs after them!
