Introducing Sigsbee, Our New Mid-Century Inspired Seating Collection
Meet the new seating collection that offers upholstery details like a nylon-buckle attachment for an unexpected and modern interpretation of a classic style.
We're super proud to announce the debut of Sigsbee, a mid-century inspired seating collection created in collaboration with emerging American design duo, Filter Studio.
The seating collection combines classic, mid-century design elements, but offers upholstery details like a nylon-buckle attachment for an unexpected and modern interpretation of a classic style.
Inviting, familiar, and natural, the design features a steam bent wooden frame with angular legs propping up the upholstered seat and back pads which resemble pillows -- and are every bit as comfortable.
“There’s something exciting about the history and tradition of chair making, and that inspired us to create a product that was sophisticated and timeless. This collection hints at a more elevated space than the other chairs we’ve designed in the past, so it was a new challenge for us," said Tim Stoepker, founder of Filter Studio.
Alongside its traditional yet sophisticated aesthetic, the design of Sigsbee prioritizes comfort and personalization. While the scale is efficient, maximizing space within commercial spaces, the proportions are welcoming and almost indulgent. The upholstered pads add to the indulgent experience by gently contouring the body. Yet, even in its most basic variation, all wood, the chair is ergonomically supportive and equally as comfortable.
“Personalization is at the core of Grand Rapids Chair Company’s design philosophy. Tim and Sarah (Filter Studio) have accomplished something special with Sigsbee. The way they have brought in new surface materials, like the nylon webbing and metallic buckle options add depth to the collection in a refreshing and unexpected way.”
All models can be finished in 16 standard wood stains. The fully upholstered models feature a signature nylon strap that wraps around the back of the chair or stool and fastens with a metal buckle. The strap is available in four different colors (Black, Olive, Pacific Blue, and Khaki), while the buckle is available in either brass or matte black.
The Sigsbee seating collection is finished and upholstered in the Grand Rapids, Michigan factory. The seating line showcases the company’s mastery in upholstery and wood finishing. All products are tested to meet BIFMA durability standards.
