If you’re keen on craft beer but over the industrial look, then Night Shift Brewing might be the place for you. Opting for a more modern look, Night Shift Brewing’s Lovejoy Wharf location is superbly drenched in color, making it one of the most photogenic, modern breweries we’ve ever seen.

A blend of cobalt blue, dusty blue, and salmon orange stools line the island bar and communal tables, while floor-to-ceiling murals bring an unexpected vibrancy to the space. The murals were painted by local artist James Weinburg and depict the company’s origin story from a humble home brewery to one of Boston’s most popular up-and-coming brands.

Dancing above the bar is what looks like stained glass light that paints the space in brilliant hues of blue and yellow. Night Shift is just one of the many breweries popping up across the country embracing a more modern aesthetic, ditching the reclaimed wood and homemade tables for colorful furniture and bright walls.

Just like this  colorful brewery in Oregon, this modern brewery departs from the standard brewpub design formula.

Accessibility, integrity, and evolution are at the forefront of the Night Shift brand as reflected in the beer-infused menu and contemporary interior. Designed by Helios Design Group, the 9,000 square foot taproom, kitchen, and cafe, comfortably seats 300+ customers and doesn’t shy away from the bold and brazen.

With a few years of brewing experience under their belts, the Night Shift team decided that the Lovejoy Wharf location would not only be their largest tap room and brewing facility but it would be home to Night Shift Roasting, an exciting new venture for the business. With the addition of NSR, the taproom is transformed into an all-day cafe. While the bar doesn’t open until 11 am, patrons can use the expansive taproom starting at 6 am daily.

Their refreshing approach to modern design goes beyond the finishes and all-day cafe approach and takes functionality and inclusion into consideration. The faint glow of a neon sign that reads “All Styles Welcome” warms the walls above the gender neutral restrooms and nursing room, a detail co-founder Michael Oxton says refers to both genders and beers alike. These considerations are just a few modern amenities you’d be hard pressed to find in other breweries across the country. Not only that, but they reinforce Night Shift’s desire to integrated into the Boston community.

At Night Shift’s Lovejoy Wharf location, color, coffee, and an inclusion usher in a new era of modern brewery design--call it the “industrial evolution” if you will.
