Drop Kick Cocktail Bar & Kitchen is Where We’re Headed for Happy Hour
Explore the design details of Austin’s newest go to spot for flavorful food and gorgeous drinks.
Drop Kick Cocktail Bar & Kitchen, located at 1630 East 6th Street in Austin, Texas is the perfect spot for flavorful food and a gorgeous drink. The restaurant opened in early 2020 and is still going strong, despite the pandemic which, as I’m sure you all know, came shorty after. From hearty cheeseburgers to tuna tostadas, this menu has something for everyone. Bar favorites are elevated to really give you that wow factor when you dig in. Plus, the interior is a delight.
With full windowed walls that bring lots of natural light into the interior, the bar feels bright and cheerful, even with so many dark details like black painted walls and lush midnight blue curtains. White geometrical maze like lines decorate the blue tiled bar front while the natural solid wood top brings in warmth. The barstools in this commercial space are finished in honey with dusty blue steel legs.
We also love the hanging Edison bulbs, which are tucked into the ceiling just above the bar, nestled into the wood.
Stools and wooden counter space as well as pedestal tables line the glass walls so that no space is left unused. A cozy nook in the back corner against velvet curtains feels like the perfect spot to sit with family and friends. Wooden bench seats are full of fluffy pillows for comfort. The polished concrete floors feel industrial but all those gorgeous wooden details from the bar to the window seating make this space super inviting.
If you happen to stop in between 3 and 6 PM, you can get half-off draft cocktails, wine, and beer during their happy hour. One of those draft cocktails is a hibiscus cosmo, which is so gorgeous. They also have the Pinthouse Electric Jellyfish Hazy IPA, which would totally be my pick.
I’m also a total sucker for appetizers. Chips and aji verde salsa or elote a lo peruno would be the perfect snack for a happy hour hang out. They also have a brunch menu that includes shrimp ceviche, decadent waffles, pan con chicharron, and more. Chef Francisco Baca does an excellent job leading the kitchen, so whatever you order, you’re going to be in for a treat.
